The Palace Museum Alwar

The Palace Museum is a must-visit for anyone with an interest in the opulent life and lifestyle led by the Maharajas of Alwar. Rare manuscripts, including one depicting Emperor Babur’s life, Ragamala paintings and miniatures and even historic swords that once belonged to Muhammad Ghori, Emperor Akbar and Aurangzeb can be found here.

The entire collection of the museum comes from the Royal families reserves and consists of 234 sculptures, 11 inscriptions, 9702 coins, 35 metal objects, 2565 paintings & manuscripts, 2270 arms & weapons and 1809 objects of local art, crafts and musical instruments. Spending a couple of hours in the museum is a good way to initiate yourself into the history of Alwar and take back memories of its unique culture and tradition.

The museum has been divided into three sections-
1. First Section displays tanned skins of exotic animals like leopards and tiger which were the hunt victories of the royal household. Besides, it houses umpteen sculptures and inscriptions.
2. Second Section is replete with exquisite manuscripts written down in Persian, Arabic, Urdu and Sanskrit. The segment also displays various paintings, murals and frescoes belonging to the Rajput and Mughal school of learning.
3. Third Section contains the diverse arms and weaponry, swords, daggers and shields of the regal soldiers.
